About us - The Red Wagons

Red Wagons are the premier jump blues band in Italy. They formed in 1998 and their music is strongly inspired by rythms and sounds of R&B of 40s and 50s: They play an explosive miscellany of boogie woogie, jump blues, rock’n roll and swing.​

They excute original compositions and reinterprete with thematical arrangements covers of authors as Louis Jordan, T-Bone Walker, ​ Percy Mayfield, Charles Brown, Roscoe Gordon, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Red Prysock, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, Ray Charles, Louis Prima, Buddy Johnson.

In 2004 the band begins to collaborate with Mitch Woods ​(www.mitchwoods.com), the known singer-pianist of San Francisco, who chooses them as official band during his italian tour. ​​In summer 2007 Red Wagons have the pleasure to be in tour with Junior Watson “the king of west coast blues” (​www.juniorwatson.com​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​), playing with him during italian blues festivals.

One of these concerts can be found on the Junior’s CD intitled: JUNIOR WATSON – LIVE FROM OUTER SPACE recorded at Torre Alfina Blues Festival and produced by Bluebeat Music.
During the passed years The Red Wagons played and cooperated with Lousiana Red, Deitra Farr, Mitch Woods, Junior Watson, Sax Gordon Beadle, Sugar Ray Norcia, Lynwood Slim, Igor Prado, Mr. Herbie Goins, Lil’ Gizzelle, Jive Aces, Alessandro Haber.
They were the opening band of B.B. King, Robert Cray, Bo Diddley, Herbie Hancock Sextet, Mal WALDROM Trio, Roscoe Mitchell & The Note Factory, Ford Blues Band, Freddie Bell, Zucchero, as well.

The band has been participating from many years at the most important italian and european festivals as: Summer Jamboree Festival, Breda Blues Festival, Hep Cat’s Festival, Blues and Wine Festival, Ruffano Trend & Blues, Fano Jazz, Blues in the Park, Roma Blues Festival, Riano Blues, Blues sotto le stelle, Torre Alfina in Blues, Campli Blues, Blues Divino, Brindisi Blues Festival, etc…

In July 2004 they release their first album/cd “Ullàlla boogie” : 15 tracks, 4 of them originals. The album is received very well by musical magazines ” il Blues” and ” Jamboree” and it is passed on the radios (Rai Stereo Uno – Radio Centro Suono) during many weeks. After many delayes, in July 2012 the band releases the second album intitled “Jumpin’ with friends”. This is a very ambitious project with the extraordinary collaboration of some of the most important living bluesmen: Junior Watson, Sugar Ray Norcia, Lynwood Slim, Mitch Woods, Igor Prado and “Sax” Gordon Beadle.
